Thurston County’s First Neurodiversity Collective Supporting Families and Providers Locally and Beyond!

Welcome To Sound Youth Neurodiversity Collective!

Empowering neurodivergent children and their caregivers, supported by professionals with community-based care and lived experience.

We are a collective of neurodivergent providers, supportive allies, and parents raising twice-exceptional (2e) neurodivergent children. Each lived experience within our team has shaped a deeper understanding of what affirming, strengths-based care truly entails. Integrity, resilience, authenticity, and prioritizing care over profit are central to our core values.

What Makes SYNC Different?

We’re a team of neurodivergent folks and allies who believe in care that’s kind, respectful, and built on real connection. We listen, we collaborate, and we center each person’s unique strengths and story. We’re deeply rooted in community—and we’ll always choose people over profit.

About us

Our Story

SYNC was founded by Mary Coburn, a Speech-Language Pathologist with over 10 years of experience in private practice. Mary launched SYNC with a vision to create a collaborative, family-centered space where providers could work together to better support children and teens.

While running her own practice, Whole Child Therapy Services, Mary saw that traditional private practice models often limited collaboration and put profit before people. She believed there was a better way—one that honored both providers’ autonomy and the diverse needs of families.

Mary wanted to create a space where professionals could connect, support each other, and offer a wide range of services under one roof. This approach would allow families to access trusted care—like speech therapy, occupational therapy, and mental health support—all in one place, with providers who share values and can work together when needed.

With the support of Occupational Therapist Samantha Trout, Mary brought her vision to life and founded Sound Youth Neurodiversity Collective—a community where families and providers thrive together.

We created SYNC to offer a new path for families and providers who feel stuck in a system that focuses too much on diagnosis and rigid treatment plans. Traditional models often limit therapy time and prioritize compliance over connection, which can slow progress and cause harm. Instead, we focus on each person’s unique strengths and challenges—not just symptoms. We recognize that barriers like stigma and lack of support can harm identity and mental health. At SYNC, we build strong, trusting relationships and offer care that supports personal goals, not just neurotypical expectations.

SYNC Core Values

Integrity
We believe in transparency, fairness, and putting people first. Client and provider wellness always come before profit. Our services are flexible and based on individual needs, with longer or more frequent sessions when needed. We uphold high ethical standards and provide inclusive care for all—regardless of race, disability, gender, or income.

Advocacy & Equity

Kids and teens thrive when their environment supports them. We advocate for changes and accommodations that remove barriers to inclusion. We also consider how identity—like race, disability, gender, and income—impacts access and belonging.

Self Determination

We believe in every client’s potential and never judge based on labels. We support their right to make choices about their own bodies and goals, and include them in the process as much as possible.

Relationship

Kids learn best when they feel safe, heard, and supported. We follow their lead, making each session fun, flexible, and meaningful. We build strong relationships with families and offer parent coaching to help skills grow at home and in the community.

Growth

We’re committed to lifelong learning, accountability, and growth. In our shared space, providers learn from each other—and from the clients and families we serve. Feedback helps us improve every day.
